AMG Review of Fanning the Flames of Fire
Mike DaRonco
All Music GuideAn insane trip, each of Fanning the Flames of Fire's 35 tracks features someone screaming at the top of their lungs -- and only a select few clock in over a minute. 7000 Dying Rats have a wacked-out grindcore sound that is not only heavily influenced by the projects of legendary saxophonist John Zorn, but there's also a huge homage to metal, even if it seems like they're making a parody of it. Despite their tributes, there's not one ounce of seriousness that comprises 7000 Dying Rats, making Fanning the Flames of Fire much more of an enjoyable earful with songs like "As Narcissus Catches His Own Reflection in the Party Ball" and "Ozzy Looked Like Bea Arthur on the Ultimate Sin Tour."
