One of the most intriguing up-and-coming acts you'll see during MOG at the Mohawk this year, 20 year old Dylan Baldi and his Cloud Nothings project give a refreshingly modern take on both sprawling '90s rock and pop-punk on their sophomore album. Despite the occasional track like "Stay Useless" showing flashes of Baldi's past playing upbeat pop-punk, the Steve Albini-produced Attack on Memory is instead dominated by a sound much bigger and more ambitious. Tracks like opener "No Future/No Past" and epic follow-up "Wasted Days" show an artist that demands to be taken seriously, with big riffs and even bigger hooks that make you feel like Baldi might be the second coming of Built to Spill. Whether that's the case remains to be seen, but Baldi has been more than convincing so far.
