Strange Weekend

On his proper solo debut, former Sunny Day Sets Fire member Mauro Remiddi has turned in something truly special, as Strange Weekend is a dreamy slice of electro-pop heaven. Despite feeling like a staggeringly personal album, songs like "Put Me to Sleep" still have a massive, sweeping quality that enhances its intimacy rather than hinder it. It's the kind of album meant for daydreaming, as Remiddi takes his cues from hazy, lo-fi producers while giving it a polished spin. Even as Strange Weekend feels cohesive in its atmospheric sounds, there are still suggestions that Remiddi's latest project has plenty of room for growth, as his yearning vocals on bouncy acoustic closers "Picture" and "The Way In" are reason enough to get excited about a follow-up.
