Don't let your ears fool you: Tell Me a Tale was released and 2011 and the man behind it is only 24 years old. Despite sounding like it should be nestled between our beloved Shuggie Otis and Sam Cooke records, Kiwanuka has stumbled upon a bit of magic in the span of a three song EP. Few artists in this day and age can evoke the slow-burning soul that comes from tracks like the organ-laden "Worry Walks Beside Me" or the haunting background coos of the title track. If you've been pining for the golden years of rock and soul's all-too-brief convergence, you'll find hope in Kiwanuka while hoping he puts out more material immediately.
