Parallax

On his latest solo album under the Atlas Sound moniker, Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox has finally perfected his experimental take on bedroom pop, sounding both psychedelic and soothing. Tracks like the intimate "Terra Incognita" sound more stripped down than Cox's past work, relying on his fragile vocals and sparse instrumentation aside from a few well-placed touches. Even on the louder tracks like the post-punk riffs of "My Angel Is Broken," there's a common thread of bleakness that keeps the album feeling cohesive despite straying away from the core sound of Parallax. Many solo projects seems to hinder creativity in the long run, but the prolific output have Bradford Cox have only made him stronger if the latest from both Deerhunter and the Atlas Sound are any indication.
