Rather than rely of lo-fi production and hazy synths to create a dreamy atmosphere, UK act Still Corners go the old-fashioned route to create Creatures of an Hour, their debut album. Complimenting the airy vocals of Tessa Murray with concise but calming instrumentals, songs like "I Wrote in Blood" and "Endless Summer" manage to give the dream-pop sound just the right shade of darkness to feel like more than a gimmick. That bit of moodiness does much to separate them from the chillwave crowd, showing an intensity and urgency that's anything but relaxed, making them poised to give Beach House a run for their money in the coming years.
