Around the time that Neon Indian mastermind Alan Palomo released Psychic Chasms in 2009, he was living a dual life between his summery breakthrough project and the dance-oriented VEGA, but Era Extraña brings the two sounds together for one outstanding package. Early standout "Polish Girl," for instance, still has the hazy feel of Neon Indian's past work, but vibrant futuristic synths churning along throughout are destined to make his chill fans want to boogie. Meanwhile, the "Heart" series sprinkled throughout show that Palomo is still working to experiment despite making such a diverse package, and more than pushes him over the earn the label of "chillwave survivor."
