Six albums into their career, Portland rockers Blitzen Trapper have officially solidified their place as one of the few bands truly keeping the spirit of '70s rock alive on American Goldwing. After flirting with oddball prog-rock on 2010's Destroyer the Void, Goldwing finds the band crafting songs that once again evoke the finest folk-rock of yesteryear, with the key being that they don't sound like a simple tribute act. Instead, the strong hooks and drawl of frontman Eric Earley. As a result, tracks like rousing opener "Might Find It Cheap" and the mellow title track feel as relevant and immediate today as they would have four decades ago.
