While they established their initial buzz creating charming indie folk, UK duo Charles Watson and Rebecca Taylor change their sound up completely while keeping much of their tender core in tact on Paradise, their sophomore album. Embracing jangly guitars and synths along with an overall darker aesthetic, Slow Club manage to evoke the Taylor's longing vocals while taking the backing instrumentals to more expansive places, allowing her to show off her vocal range beyond the usual understated fashion one associates with twee pop. There's still an undeniable sweetness to their music, certainly, Slow Club are already showing signs that they're more interested in moving in mature directions than falsely staying forever young innocent.
