The sixth release by Jason Molina under his Songs:Ohia moniker finds him feeling rather blue, a statement you'll agree with once you hear the majority of the seven songs that make up Didn’t It Rain. “Blue Factory Flame,” for instance, is a brooding affair that slowly creeps forward but remains cloaked in somber imagery. Having recorded with a full band for the first time under this project lends a haunting quality to the sparse instrumentation that Molina was long known for, further highlighting his music's fragile, humane qualities. Molina’s mournful voice is complemented by Jennie Bedford’s backing harmonies, which gingerly walk the line between wistful and despondent, a perfect counterpoint to Molina's earnest poetry.
