After gaining plenty of buzz on their self-titled debut, Fool's Gold have managed to perfect their blend of avant-garde, indie rock, and Afro-pop into a distinct, inviting aesthetic for Leave No Trace. Coming off like a more challenging (and less preppy) Vampire Weekend, the LA act prove that they can conquer catchy hooks ("Wild Window") and post-punk ("Leave No Trace") with equal vigor, all while sounding like a part of one cohesive album. Despite the tropical vibes that the Afro-pop element gives off, though, there's still a few hints of darkness that push their way through, making it an album that will feel perfect to turn on regardless of temperature.
