It's to the credit of San Francisco act Brilliant Colors that the lo-fi indie pop of Again and Again sounds effortless on the surface, but repeated listens shows that these are surprisingly tight songs for such perfect lazy day listening. The band seems to share plenty of DNA with recent indie darlings like Best Coast and Vivian Girls, but there's something a little hazier and laid-back about songs like "Hitting Traffic" that keeps it from being another '60s girl-pop retread. Still, thanks to songs like upbeat opener "Hey Dan," you'll recognize that there's too much rock for Brilliant Colors' sound to be strictly pop and vice-versa, and you'll be thankful for that gray area by the time you finish listening.
