Getting complete control over an album sometimes leads to a messy collection of songs, but that very creative freedom gives UK emcee Wiley his best effort in years on the aptly titled 100% publishing. The UK's grime scene has changed plenty since Wiley helped lay the blueprint for it at the start of the '00s, but Wiley still manages to stay one step ahead of the pack here. He wisely let's a smooth, clear piano compete with his usual glitchy beats on "Wise Man and His Words," while the frenetic "One Hit Wonder" has Wiley commenting on the sudden strangeness that came when he scored a surprise hit in the form of UK smash "Wearing My Rolex." At 32, Wiley is a grizzled veteran by grime's standards, and but 100% Publishing has him sounding as young and hungry as ever, and we can only hope he keeps it up from here.
