After gaining a cult fanbase with her charming debut, 2008's Fortress Round My Heart, Norway's Ida Maria has created the best follow-up possible in the form of Katla. While her neurotic, booze-fueled spirit remains in tact, Ida Maria has smartly upped her ante in the instrumental department, expanding her sound to embrace blues rock ("Bad Karma") and acoustic ballads ("Quite Nice People") among other experiments. At the same time, though, Katla's most memorable tracks once again find her providing an antidote to the testosterone-heavy world of rock anthems, creating catchy tunes for ladies and gents alike to sing alike to, especially the joyful "I Eat Boys for You For Breakfast."
