Like the changing of the seasons, another UK act have look poised to save rock 'n' roll, but the Vaccines are one of the very few that look like the real deal. On their concise, catchy debut, What Did You Expect From the Vaccines?, the band unleash a frenetic barrage guitars as they cover everything from breakups to getting older, making sure each track is just short enough to avoid getting stale. While upbeat numbers like reconciliation anthem "If You Wanna" rightfully get listed as standout tracks, it's the fact that the Vaccines can handle a slower pace that shows off their potential, as "Wetsuit" tries to convince us that we can stay forever young even as all evidence points to the contrary. Time will tell if they'll survive the hype, but the Vaccines have lived up to it and then some, at least for now.
