On her latest, singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler continues to feel both intimate and dreamy, but the fact that her folk sound has a few orchestral elements just might make this the best album of her career. Opener "In Your Lair, Bear," for instance, kicks off with a sparse acoustic and Nadler's ethereal before giving way to delicate strings that give her song a fully-realized atmosphere. Elsewhere, pedal steels make an appearance on the pastoral "The Sun Always Reminded Me of You," providing a new context and attitude for one of Nadler's many heartbreak-induced ballads. While we're happy to see her sound getting bigger, Marissa Nadler's songs are, thankfully, still cozy enough to feel intimate.
