Musical Highlights From the Play "Fire in the Rain" chronicles the Holly Near songs from her autobiographical play. As such, it is in effect a compilation of some of Near's best work, from standards like "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" and "If I Loved You" to feminist and lesbian anthems like "Started Out Fine" and "Simply Love," dating back 20 years and re-recorded. She is in wonderful voice and is accompanied by pianist John Bucchino and occasional strings. This is a good way to sample Near's warm, political, triumphant style.
