Minnesota slowcore band Low have eight studio albums behind them, and most of them were regarded for their chaotic yet minimalist approach. While they haven’t abandoned their signature sound, C’mon is the most delicately elegant set of songs we’ve heard from them so far. “You See Everything,” powered by Mimi Parker’s melodies, is the most soft rock of anything Low have accomplished, yet “Especially Me,” gently thumps forward, hinting at their darker origins. If there’s a center holding C’mon together, it’d be tough to argue that “Nothing But Heart” more than drives their sound to an approachable and gorgeous listen, announcing itself in the form of Alan Sparhawk’s distorted mess of guitar, before dropping to a minimal strumming, then unraveling and making space for sounds cloaked in a hypnotic haze of enchantment. Low have successfully introduced just enough light to their brooding catalog, but thankfully they're far from ready to abandon it.
