After becoming darlings of the lo-fi rock scene over the past few years, Vivian Girls have become set on expanding their sound, with '60s girl pop sharing a bigger and bigger influence that has finally become the driving force behind Share the Joy. The group's penchant for Phil Spector groups was evident on their self-titled debut and Everything Goes Wrong, but sloppy rock anthems were still taking center stage until now. Focusing on multi-vocal harmonies and slowing things down for a change of pace, Vivian Girls have all of their strengths showcased on their latest, easily evoking a sense of longing for lovers just out of reach while having a bit of self-awareness about it on songs like slow-burning "I Heard You Say." Still, the band can get your adrenaline flowing on songs like "Dance (If You Wanna)," and the ability to shake things up bodes well for their future competing against like-minded acts like Best Coast for years to come.
