Considering Lily's eponymously titled 1997 release is a treat. They tackle serious topics with intense musicianship, without ever taking themselves too seriously. Occasionally they wander a bit too far into hippie-dom, but, overall, this album is a real pleasure from start to finish. Considering Lily's strength is in their creative, tongue-in-cheek lyrics. "Pike's Peak" is an intriguing way of looking at life without God ("it's like driving down Pike's Peak [at] 90 miles an hour in the dark with the headlights off"). "Beautiful You" is a sweet, fun number. "Come Rest" is calming and peaceful, followed by "Cup," a passionate treatise on life seperated from God. "Peaceman" is a little overly happy, but "Get Together" is a charming cover, hitting on similar themes. Considering Lily's last release with Serene Campbell and Pearl Barrett is everything one could hope it would be.
