Like kindred spirits No Age, Crocodiles are one of the few punk bands around capable of exploring the hazy, atmospheric layer of noise that their peers ignore, something that's on full display on Sleep Forever, their sophomore effort. Produced by Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford, the album finds the California rockers gunning for something bigger and better, lulling listeners with soothing textures before unleashing something akin to lo-fi arena rock, especially on both the title track and opener "Mirrors." They're gunning for something that's at once more experimental and more accessible than No Age, and while they haven't struck the right balance to break through just yet, that moment certainly coming soon.
