AMG Review of Home Movies from the Brain Forest
John Bush
All Music GuideJazzy drum'n'bass is hardly the full story on Mocean Worker's debut album. From the darkside noir of "American Tabloid" (a James Ellroy tribute) to the excellent roots/standards homage on the evocative "Summertime/Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child," Dorn pulls off a minor masterpiece of the field. And the drum programming -- usually an afterthought with album-oriented junglists -- shines throughout, including on the highlights "What's Wrong" and "Overtime."
