Arrested Development's full-length debut felt like a revelation when it was released in 1992, and giving the hip-hop classic another listen today will make you wonder why the band didn't become one of the genre's titans in the years since. Though the earnest, socially conscious themes on songs like "People Everyday" and "Fishin' for Religion" rightfully earn much of the attention, the fact that they could attract mainstream listeners who weren't looking for messages was equally astounding. "Mama's Always on Stage," for instance, managed to feel funky and ready for the dancefloor while appealing to crate diggers and casual fans alike, and tracks like "U" drive the point home.
