MOG Editorial Review
When the president of Selena's fan club ended the young singer's life in 1995, it wasn't just the Latin music world that was shocked by the tragedy. Selena, sometimes referred to as the "Mexican Madonna," was on her way to international fame with plans to release her first crossover album on the horizon. Even before her tragic end, Selena's 1994 album Amor Prohibido was certified Gold and eventually became the biggest-selling Latin album to date, enough to solidify her as a superstar. Though Selena's singing is the main draw, her talented band provided a solid foundation for her Tejano pop, and the promise of Amor Prohibido makes us wonder about the dizzying heights she would have surely reached in the years after.

AMG Review of Amor Prohibido
Stephen Thomas Erlewine
All Music GuideAmor Prohibido was Selena's biggest album before her crossover attempt, Dreaming of You. While the album is slightly uneven, she was a dynamic, charismatic singer, and is able to pull across the weaker material. Indeed, the record is her strongest album and shows why she was the biggest Tejano star of the '90s.
