All Music GuideVeteran drummer Roy Haynes only has a single short solo on this CD but one suspects that his presence helped solidify and inspire the illustrious sidemen (altoist Donald Harrison, guitarist Pat Metheny, pianist David Kikoski and bassist Christian McBride). Harrison and Metheny are the lead solo voices on a program that ranges from compositions by Chick Corea, Thelonious Monk (the difficult "Trinkle Twinkle") and Ornette Coleman to three by Metheny. Strong as the other musicians are, Christian McBride often comes close to stealing the show (as can be heard during his solo on Charlie Haden's "Blues M45"). This all-star matchup works quite well.
