Classical acts rarely seem to have any appeal to young folks, but most classical acts aren't like France's Quatuor Ébène. For the compositions collected on Fiction, the quartet manage to give takes on some of their favorite film scores and rock tunes. Don't confuse it for gimmickry, though: this is a serious, skilled set of musicians, creating sophisticated covers that also benefit from their own globe-trotting sensibilities, whether it's the frantic interpretation of Greek standard "Misirlou" or the uplifting, twangy strings of "Come Together." If you're looking for a classical sound with a modern sensibility, Fiction is the album you didn't know you need until now.
