Halloween Motion Picture Soundtrack

Known mostly for its iconic chilly synths, the theme song and overall soundtrack for John Carpenter's Halloween series should immediately be synonymous with spooky terror for anyone even slightly familiar with the films. With each sudden pound of the synthesizer sounding quite like a startling stab, Carpenter came up with a perfectly tense sound to base his score around, and as a result the accompanying music is nearly as famous as Michael Myers' mask. Though Carpenter will always be known as a director first and foremost, the Halloween soundtrack is just one of many examples of the man being capable of striking just the right notes as well.

Although this hit soundtrack was recorded with cheap '70s synthesizers, the simple scores composed by John Carpenter are acclaimed masterpieces. Carpenter sets the mood for his horrific movie with such tracks as "The Shape Stalks," "Laurie's Theme" and, of course, his main theme, which consists of the beating out of a 5-4 rhythm. A definite first pick for those interested, this soundtrack even bests most scary music albums.
