Emilie Autumn's Enchant is a sprawling and mystical work of new age chamber music, trip-hop baroque, and experimental space pop. The Malibu multi-instrumentalist may be a little heady for the average rock fan, but her range is impressive, from the TLC-gone-Renaissance cut "How Strange," to the medieval electro-pop of "Rapunzel," and the moody, downright Elton John-esque piano ballad "Ever." At times she sounds like "Tori Amos," at others she's dark and atmospheric like the Creatures. And while less genre variability would serve Autumn's marketability quite well, this misty and boldly theatrical record should please Sarah McLachlan followers, fantasy enthusiasts, and the more adventurous members of Enya's fan base.
