Amid label problems surrounding the release of Outkast member Big Boi’s first proper solo album, the outstanding Gucci Mane-assisted “Shine Blockas” leaked, sitting comfortably between smooth R&B and bass-bumping drop top tunes. On the strength of this early leak, fans braced themselves for Big Boi to deliver an album of high caliber rapping, bouncing block party bass, and some pop friendly hooks to sing to. Once Sir Lucious Left Foot was finally unveiled (nearly 9 months after “Shine Blockas” first leaked), it did more than please his fan base. There are knocking beats (“Tangerine,” “You Ain’t No DJ” featuring Yelawolf), electro-leaning booty bouncers (“Shutterbugg,” “Daddy Fat Stacks”), some classic Big Boi tongue-twisting rhymes (“Back Up Plan,” “Turns Me On”), and even a daring rock tune (“Follow Us” featuring newcomers Vonnegutt). If this is as close to an Outkast album as we can get, we’ll happily take it and commit to repeat plays.
