If you want to understand the science of post-millennial electronic music, you have to be willing to do some math. Trevor Jackson's Output Recordings has risen to the top of the "now" imprint pile, re-inventing the sounds and spirit of Joy Division (Colder), Liquid Liquid (the Rapture) and now, 7 Hurtz takes in the Orb's space-ghost electronica for all it's worth. Figuring out the cycle of genesis between 1977, 1981 and 1989 would require a level of social calculus akin to trying to understand the ending of #2010: The Year We Make Contact. Then consider the x-factor that half of 7 Hurtz, Lascelles, was a founding member of seminal acid jazz outfit the Brand New Heavies and you'd be better off just leaving the question blank and enjoying the tickling hi-hats and groovy little electronic sweeps that form the closest bridge between here and Mars.
