Tindersticks (2nd Album)

Between the lush orchestral elements incorporated into their indie rock sound and the mumbled vocals of singer Stuart Staples, it was impossible not to think of Tindersticks sophomore album as dark and sinister. With tracks like "A Night In" feeling as sweeping as they are understated, Tindersticks perfected the art of rainy day music, creating a soundtrack for isolation that newer bands like the National took cues from. While most double albums tend to wane the longer you listen, the dense songs of this album seem built for both repeated listening and engagement, as late-album gems like "Travelling Light" show them at the height of their creative powers.
