Midnight Groove: The Art of Smooth Jazz contains 15 tracks culled from the Windham Hill vaults. By some definitions, this isn't quite smooth jazz -- it's closer to contemporary instrumental than the lightly funky fusions of the Yellowjackets -- but it is smooth, relaxing and ambient, and it should appeal to fans of any of the featured artists, which include Ricky Peterson, Tom Scott, Todd Cochran, Lani Hall, Phil Perry, Tom Grant, Paul Horn, Peter White and Tuck & Patti.
