AMG Review of Volume: The Best of Paul Van Dyk
David Jeffries
All Music GuideTaking the all-in-one attitude of his Global release from 2003, Volume is another career overview, greatest-hits compilation, and mix album from progressive house and trance producer Paul Van Dyk. Big differences here are a disc that focuses on Dyk’s remix work plus all the tracks that have come in the six years since the Global set, including massive dancefloor hits like “Let Go” and “White Lies.” Disc one features all of Dyk’s own productions and kicks off with a 2009 remix of the DJ’s first hit, “For an Angel.” Disc two rounds up the remixes including highlights from Depeche Mode, Justin Timberlake, and U2 plus fellow producer/DJ Timo Maas who’s "Pictures" appears here in a previously unreleased mix from Dyk. This is an easy recommendation for casual fans who don’t mind having these tracks blended together, but for hardcore trance heads who have already worn out Global, this is a no-brainer.
