AMG Review of Daylight
Jason Birchmeier
All Music GuideCannibal Ox and Company Flow may have played a more visible role in the Def Jux label's rise to critically acclaimed status in the early 2000s, but Aesop Rock also garnered a considerable amount of attention for the alt-rap label. He collaborates with producer Blockhead here, though Cannibal Ox fans will be happy to know that El-P produces one of this EP's tracks, "Nickel Plated Pockets." But for the most part, this EP is a showcase for Blockhead and Aesop. The two lay down quite a few tracks that are on a par with those found on Aesop's preceding full-length, Labor Days, making this EP a wonderful follow-up that should interest fans of the Def Jux establishment.
