Part of a Storyville CD series that has released rare performances taken from the Dr. Jazz radio shows of 1952, these 17 selections by Eddie Condon's band are most valuable for featuring the talented but largely forgotten trumpeter Johnny Windhurst. The Dixieland standards also have spots for the highly expressive clarinetist Edmond Hall, trombonist Cutty Cutshall, pianist Gene Scroeder, either Bob Casey or Bill Goodall on bass and Buzzy Drootin, Cliff Leeman or Mort Herbert on drums but it is Windhurst's solos that generally take honors. Easily recommended (along with the entire series) to Dixieland fans.
