One of the greatest soul acts to ever hail from the city of brotherly love, the Delfonics had a certain sweetness to their sound that was evident on each and every track of this retrospective. Unlike many soul groups of the time, they managed to avoid raspy vocals for something smoother, and the whole classic soul sound itself manages to sound different as a result on tracks like "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)." Though many of their peers veered away from doo-wop as the years went on, the Delfonics stuck to their guns to create songs that were sweet and smooth thanks to well-orchestrated horns and strings on later highlights like "Think It Over." If anything, the late-'70s output captured on La La Love You shows that the Delfonics' sound was timeless, too well-suited for them to ever need any updating for a new era of soul.
