Jaramillo was a fine singer in the elegant older Venezuelan vein, whose backings included harp, guitar, and occasional fiddles and/or accordion. This was a style that, while definitely pop rather than traditional, owed little or nothing to any outside source (with the notable and obvious exception of the Argentine tango).
