While it was composed over 45 years ago, Terry Riley's In C is more experimental and chaotic than most avant-orchestral pieces created today. Arguably the first truly minimalist composition, the piece is considered to be semi-aleatoric, meaning that no two performances should ever sound the same. Still, it's something of a given that Riley's 1968 recording is the closest to canon there will ever be. This original recording features 11 musicians taking on the piece's many shifting parts and sweet tinkles through masterful overdubbing. The result is 40 of gloriously unpredictable noise.
