Listeners won't be able to notice it in the vocals on this 1999 album, Wildest Dreams, but only a short year before this recording was made, award-winning artist John Berry was facing one of the most horrible waking nightmares a singer can -- the urgent need for throat surgery. If this offering is the end result, then he came through the operation in fine form. The songs on Wildest Dreams can lean a little more toward soft pop and rock than country at times. This includes a lot of guitar action on some numbers, but Berry's tenor voice is a powerful match. Both country and pop fans will find plenty to like here with tracks like "Rivers in the Clouds," "Love Is for Giving," "You'll Be in My Heart," "Where Would I Be," and "Salvation."
