MOG Editorial Review
Released in 2005, this album of 4th of July songs offers a collection of American flag-waving anthems that act as the perfect backdrop to any cookout. Female and male vocalists are featured over piano-driven ballads and the soft riffing of guitars alike. The twangy "Yankee Doodle," the group singing on "This Land is Your Land," and the soulful rendition of "America The Beautiful" all hold something special you may not have heard before, whether it's an occasional vocal trill or an additional guitar bridge. 4th of July will fulfill your patriotic celebration and please both the young and the old.

AMG Review of Fourth of July on the Plains
Stewart Mason
All Music GuideThe Fourth of July is a family project, and it sounds like it. Even beyond the casual harmonies of brothers Brendan Hangauer (lead vocals and guitar), Patrick Hangauer (bass) and Kelly Hangauer (keyboards and trumpet; a fourth brother is their manager), which have that familial closeness non-related bandmates can never replicate, there's just a low-key, relaxed vibe to Fourth of July on the Plains. Lightly comic tunes like "Why Did I Drink So Much Last Night?," an Everly Brothers-like acoustic folk-pop duet, and the sardonic rockers "Surfer Dude" and "Pimps in Paris" sit comfortably next to slightly more earnest efforts like the gloriously sunny power pop of "She's in Love" (which features some terrific Kinks-like background vocal hooks), and everything has an effortless quality that keeps Fourth of July on the Plains light and breezy in the manner of early Nick Lowe albums.
