Dale Watson's third album, I Hate These Songs, is a little tamer than Blessed or Damned or Cheatin' Heart Attack, but it remains a solid collection of neo-honky tonk. Watson writes sturdy, memorable songs in the tradition of Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings, and he delivers them with conviction and humor that compensate for his resistance to move the form forward.
