AMG Review of Best of Horace Andy, Ken Boothe, Dennis Brown
Steve Leggett
All Music GuideThis three-disc budget box combines three albums, Horace Andy's This World, Ken Boothe's You're No Good, and Dennis Brown's Dennis Brown Sings Revival Classics, in a single package that coheres in concept because everything on all three discs was produced by Bunny Lee. Nothing changes the world here, but all three singers hit some good high points, including Andy on his signature "Skylarking," Boothe's soulful version of "You're No Good," and Brown's wonderful and spirited take on "Write Me a Letter," not to mention his somewhat baffling restructuring of Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale" as "Winter Shade of Pale," which almost kind of works conceptually, if you think about it. What this isn't: it isn't the "best-of" any of these singers.
