AMG Review of Let's All Go to Bed

All Music GuideThough the band name and title might lead you to think it's a porn rock album or some such thing, the Mother Truckers' Let's All Go to Bed is the kind of good-time roots rock that many listeners associate with the music scene of the group's Austin, TX base. There's a lot of country in their sound, as well as some folk and raunchy bar band rock, more often than not executed with a grinning, upbeat delivery. The female-male harmonies of Teal Collins and Josh Zee do much to distinguish them from the many other bands, from Austin and elsewhere, in roughly the same boat. For the most part, however, it's rather typical fare for the genre, though that's hardly a bad thing. It's admirably varied and eclectic, from honky-tonkish stompers (though these fall short of being so vicious as to be cowpunk) and the "Honky Tonk Women"-styled "Streets of Atlanta" to fairly tuneful, delicate ballads that give Collins the spotlight.
