Heartbeat of New Orleans Rock 'n' Roll is a great introduction to Crescent City R&B. The 20 selections feature Frankie Ford ("Blow, Wind Blow"), Dr. John ("Hot and Spicy"), Joe Tex and James Booker ("Put Your Confidence in Me"), Jimmy Clanton and the Heartbeats ("Tears, Tears, and More Tears"), Chuck Carbo and the Spiders ("Chained"), and Lloyd Price ("Sack Dress"). Most of the music is from the mid- to late '50s and many rarities are included, along with just a few familiar items. Another excellent release from Ace Records.
