AMG Review of Jessica
James Christopher Monger
All Music Guide"Jessica," the first single from former Moldy Peaches frontman Adam Green's record Friends of Mine, is a tongue-in-cheek love letter to celebrity bimbo Jessica Simpson, to whom he pleads "Jessica Simpson where did your love go/It's not in your music." This disappointment with women continues on the acerbic "What a Waster," a cautionary tale of a relationship destroyed by cocaine, and the Jonathan Richman-like "Friends of Mine," where he proclaims "We fall in love by accident." The five-song EP finishes up with a ranting, Dada-esque field recording from Greens youth and an oddly faithful cover of the Beach Boys' "Kokomo" with fellow indie darling Ben Kweller.
