He had many fine moments throughout his career, but the return of "The Iceman" on this 1978 classic is no doubt his greatest. Adding elements of pop and rock to his traditional blues sound made for a perfect showcase of both his masterful guitar skills and subdued vocals. Whether it was a funky number like "Master Charge," a vengeful R&B jam like "Honey, Hush! (Talking Woman Blues" or the rock-infused "Too Tired," Collins managed to sound like the blues personified even as he expanded his sound, and the riffs are without a doubt among his most mind-blowing. He may have more notoriety among bluesmen themselves than casual fans, but Icepickin' should be considered far more than just a forgotten landmark.
