It's not surprising that singer/guitarist Blair Shehan's first post-Knapsack project sounds, in many ways, exactly like his former band. Still present on this, the Jealous Sound's first release, are Shehan's trademark wall-of-guitar and unique, throaty vocal style. What's different about this band's style is a lack of the constant urgency that infected all Knapsack records. It's still here to a degree, certainly, on songs like "What's Wrong Is Everywhere," but the jaunty, piano-led "Quiet Life" is a welcome, poppy departure. All five songs on this debut EP point to truly excellent things to come.
