AMG Review of Moon Theory
Kurt Morris
All Music GuideMoon Theory's sound should be quite recognizable to many popular music fans. Combining trip-hop with female vocals, their self-titled album can be cross referenced with many other artists: Garbage, Björk, Morcheeba, Portishead, and Nine Inch Nails. Some of the pieces on this album are really aggressive and others are more laid-back and sexy. Kaeti O'Ghara's vocals are wonderfully smooth and blissfully solid, while the music never misses a beat (although with electronic music that's kind of hard to do). The lyrical content was kind of weird, as a lot of it seemed to be almost Christian in its content, and yet at the same time O'Ghara seemed to occasionally go off on angry rants as she attacked consumerism and media manipulation. It was an interesting mix. There did seem to be a certain cheese factor in some of the effects used in association with the vocals and music, but this is certainly a strong foundation for this duo to build upon.
