With the soundtrack for classic Clint Eastwood shoot'em up The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Italian Composer Ennio Morricone wasn't content to turn in the standard, sweeping film score. He opted instead to comb the vast prairies in search of inspiration. The very epitome of the Spaghetti Western soundtrack, string-y guitar lines pop like spokes on a wagon ride while otherworldly echoes evoke the intrigue and emptiness of the wild, wild west. The result would not only define the legendary composer's career, but also set a new cinematic standard (every Western since has aped his aesthetic).
