MOG Editorial Review
Trying to embody the voice of the working-class has long been a goal for most rockers, but few did it as masterfully as Jackson Browne's debut album. With a sound that was rock 'n' roll at its core despite plenty of country and folk influences, Browne set about creating ballads that were especially notable because of its unquestionable empathy, showing regret, fear, and every other emotion across the human spectrum regardless of the perspective he's inhabiting. What's more, he taps into emotions that are universal without every once seeming cliche, especially the album's biggest hit, "Doctor My Eyes," a track that might just evoke a little soul-searching once you get past the infectious, toe-tapping bongos.
